The only thing that works is just making a folder in my home directory called “Plex” which then puts it on my NVMe, but my NVMe is only 480gb, so I run out of space fast. Here you can see john is the owner and media is the group, and I restarted the media server itself, but nope. Here you can see how both plex and john are in the same group ~]$ sudo chown -R john:media ~]$ sudo chown -R john:media ~]$ sudo systemctl restart plexmediaserver I never had this issue previously when using my iMac, new files would show up very quickly and reliably. I even chmod’d the entire mount to 777 so all users can read, write and execute, and this still doesn’t work. This can be aggravated further with docker when the user and group that the container runs as is inconsistent with the permissions of the media files.
I tried plex:plex (plex for both user and group), didn’t work, in fact, nothing works. The most frequently seen problem with Plex is incorrect permissions/ownership on media files. I tried changing the owner to plex and the group to media, doesn’t work. Disable any proxies being used on your computer or router. Disable any VPN on your computer or router. Verify that your Server is listed on your Devices page. Ensure that Plex Media Server is actually actively running. I added john and plex to a new group called media, and changed /home/john/Storage/Plex (and all the subdirectories) so the owner is john and the group is media. Here are some general troubleshooting steps you can take: Ensure you have the current version of Plex Media Server installed. The user account under which your Plex Media Server is running needs to have permission to access your content. I edited fstab to mount the UUID of the drive to /home/john/Storage and Plex sees this just fine, but like I say, none of the subdirectories. If no content at all is being found or you’re unable to see particular directories when trying to set up a library, you may be encountering permission issues (which prevent Plex from being allowed to see/access the content).

All of the sub-directories and files need to have just read permission. I had this issue with roku tv and i tried many solutions non of them worked but i found out this :)If you still have the issueOpen sub file with NotepadForma.
In other words if you are storing your movies in /Media/MediaDrive/Movies then Movies will need to have 755 (dr-xr-xr-x) permissions. But it doesn’t see the Plex folder or any of the subdirectories within that. Apparently Plex needs read and execute permission for the root directory of your media directory. It sees the mount fine, which is called Storage. No matter what I do I can’t get Plex to see it. Added a second drive to my computer and added some folders to it “Plex” and within that “TV, Movies, Misc”
